Read the tire size code, such as P215/65R15

Note the first letter

Identify the section width in millimeters

Identify the aspect ratio

Identify the construction type

Identify the wheel diameter in inches

Check the load index

Check the speed rating

Find the DOT code

Read the manufacturing date code

Check the maximum load

Check the maximum inflation pressure

Look for the treadwear, traction, and temperature ratings

Check the rotation direction if marked

Check the tire type markings such as M+S or all-season

Check the wear indicators on the tread
