Apply a cool compress for 5–10 minutes

Apply a bland moisturizer with ceramides or glycerin
Use aloe vera gel if it does not sting
Apply a mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide
Avoid hot water, steam, and saunas
Avoid spicy foods, alcohol, and very hot drinks
Avoid rubbing, scratching, or touching the face
Use an over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% sparingly for a short time if appropriate
Take an oral antihistamine if redness is from allergies and you can safely use it
Use green-tinted color corrector or concealer for immediate coverage
Seek medical care if redness is severe, painful, swollen, blistering, or persistent
