Back up any important files on the SD card
Power off the device you’re using the SD card with
Remove the SD card
Insert the SD card into a card reader connected to your computer
Open Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) or use your Linux disk tool
Identify the correct SD card device by size and label
Select the SD card
Choose the option to format or erase
Select a filesystem:
exFAT (recommended for cross-device use)
FAT32 (smaller cards or maximum compatibility needs)
NTFS (Windows-only use)
Set the format options (default is usually fine)
Confirm the action to format/erase the SD card
Wait for the format to complete
Safely eject the SD card
Reinsert the SD card into your device
Create or restore files as needed
