Sit upright or slightly reclined
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Drink plenty of water
Use a humidifier or inhale steam
Take slow, controlled breaths
Support your head and neck with a pillow when lying down
Apply a warm compress to the forehead or face
Use a cold compress on the forehead if that feels better
Treat the cough with an appropriate over-the-counter cough medicine if safe for you
Use saline nasal spray if congestion is contributing
Avoid smoking, vaping, and other irritants
Limit bending over or sudden position changes
Sleep with your head elevated
Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen if you can take them safely
Seek medical care if the pressure is severe, sudden, worsening, or comes with fever, vision changes, vomiting, stiff neck, or trouble breathing
