Turn off the gas control knob and wait 5 minutes
Check for any gas smell before proceeding
Remove the access panel and insulation if present
Set the gas control to Pilot
Press and hold the control knob down
Use the igniter button or a long lighter to light the pilot
Keep holding the knob for 30 to 60 seconds after the pilot lights
Release the knob and confirm the pilot stays lit
Turn the gas control knob to On
Replace the access panel and insulation
Set the thermostat to the desired temperature
If the pilot will not stay lit, turn off the gas and contact a professional
