Save and close any files stored on the USB drive
Eject the USB drive in Finder by clicking the Eject icon next to it
Drag the USB drive icon from the desktop to the Trash in the Dock
Right-click the USB drive icon and select Eject
Use the keyboard shortcut Command + E
Wait until the USB drive icon disappears from Finder or the desktop
Unplug the USB drive from the Mac
