Sign in to the laptop with an administrator account
Open Settings
Go to Accounts
Select Sign-in options
Choose Password
Click Change
Enter the current password
Leave the new password fields blank if the system allows it
Confirm the change
If using a local account and blank password is not allowed, set a new password and then disable sign-in requirements where available
For Windows, open Control Panel
Go to User Accounts
Select Remove your password if available
Enter the current password and confirm
For a Microsoft account, change the account password online instead of removing it from the laptop
Turn off Windows Hello sign-in options if they are enabled
Disable automatic lock settings if needed
Restart the laptop and test sign-in
If you do not know the current password, use the account recovery or reset options provided by the operating system
If the laptop is managed by work or school, contact the administrator
