How To Restore Cast Iron Skillet?

Scrub off rust and debris with steel wool or a stiff brush

Wash the skillet with hot water and a small amount of dish soap

Rinse thoroughly and dry completely

Remove stubborn rust with a paste of baking soda and water or white vinegar

Rinse again after using vinegar and dry immediately

Wipe the skillet with a thin layer of cooking oil

Place the skillet upside down in an oven at 450 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit

Bake for one hour to restore the seasoning

Turn off the oven and let the skillet cool inside

Repeat oiling and baking if the surface still looks dull or rusty

Store in a dry place after each use

Avoid soaking the skillet in water

Re-season regularly to maintain the finish
