Wash broccoli and cut into bite-sized florets
Peel and slice the stems if using
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat
Add oil or butter to the skillet
Add broccoli in a single layer
Season with salt and pepper
Sauté for 4 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally
Add a splash of water if needed to help soften the broccoli
Cook until bright green and tender-crisp
Add garlic, lemon juice, or other seasonings if desired
Remove from heat and serve immediately
