Remove the seed from a ripe avocado and wash off all flesh
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks around the middle of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the seed to split and roots to grow
Plant the seed in a pot with well-draining soil when roots are several inches long and a stem has formed
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Move the plant to brighter light as it grows
Transplant to a larger pot or outdoors when the plant is established
