Clean the shears thoroughly
Open the blades fully
Inspect the cutting edges for nicks or damage
Secure the shears in a vise or hold them firmly
Use a sharpening stone, file, or sharpening tool
Match the original blade angle
Sharpen each blade from pivot to tip in smooth strokes
Keep the same angle throughout each stroke
Repeat until the edge feels sharp
Remove burrs from the opposite side with a few light strokes
Wipe the blades clean
Apply a few drops of oil to the pivot and blades
Test the shears on scrap material
Tighten the pivot if needed
