How To Simplify Roots?

Factor the number inside the root into perfect powers and leftovers

Rewrite the root of a perfect power as a whole number

Keep the leftover part inside the root

For square roots, use the largest perfect square factor

For cube roots, use the largest perfect cube factor

For higher roots, use the largest perfect power factor matching the index

If the number inside the root has variables, separate factors with even or matching exponents

Move factors with exponents that are multiples of the root index outside the root

Leave factors with smaller exponents inside the root

Combine like radicals only after simplifying each radical first

Rationalize the denominator if a root remains in the denominator
