Rinse the broccoli and cut it into florets
Trim the stem and slice it if using
Add 1 to 2 inches of water to a pot
Place a steamer basket in the pot
Bring the water to a boil
Add the broccoli to the steamer basket
Cover the pot with a lid
Steam until tender-crisp, about 4 to 6 minutes
Check doneness with a fork
Remove the broccoli from the pot
Season as desired and serve
