Keep her indoors and away from intact male dogs
Use dog diapers or sanitary pants with absorbent pads

Wash bedding, blankets, and washable surfaces regularly
Limit access to carpets and furniture with washable covers
Keep her calm and reduce activity to avoid spreading discharge
Monitor the amount, color, and smell of the bleeding
Contact a veterinarian if bleeding is heavy, lasts longer than expected, or seems abnormal
Contact a veterinarian immediately if she seems weak, painful, lethargic, or has pale gums
Do not give human medications
Consider spaying to prevent future heat cycles and bleeding
