Write “Not at this address” or “Return to sender” on the envelope
Cross out the barcode if present
Place the mail back in your outgoing mailbox or give it to your postal carrier
Notify your local post office of the incorrect delivery
Ask your mail carrier to stop delivering that person’s mail to your address
If the person moved out, ask the sender to update their records
Contact the sender directly and request they remove your address
Mark your mailbox clearly with the correct names of current residents
Remove or cover old resident names from your mailbox
If the mail is for a previous tenant, keep returning it consistently
For repeated deliveries, file a complaint with the postal service
If the mail is addressed to a business or former occupant, contact the property manager
If you receive someone else’s sensitive mail, report it to the post office immediately
