Hold your breath for 10–20 seconds, then exhale slowly; repeat 2–3 times
Drink a full glass of cold water slowly
Take small sips of water continuously for 30–60 seconds
Gargle with cold water for 30 seconds
Swallow 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar; let it dissolve, then swallow
Swallow honey (1 teaspoon) slowly
Breathe into a paper bag for 30–60 seconds, then breathe normally for 1 minute; repeat once if needed
Perform “Valsalva” maneuver: bear down gently as if having a bowel movement for 10–15 seconds; repeat 2–3 times
Pull your knees to your chest and hold for 30 seconds
Stimulate the back of the throat with a teaspoon (only if comfortable and safe)
Try slow diaphragmatic breathing: inhale deeply through the nose for 4 seconds, hold 1–2 seconds, exhale for 6–8 seconds for 1–2 minutes
If hiccups are triggered by eating/drinking: stop eating, avoid carbonated drinks, and eat slowly
Seek urgent care if hiccups last more than 48 hours, or if there is chest pain, trouble breathing, severe headache, vomiting, weakness, or trouble swallowing
