Close CPU- and GPU-intensive apps and browser tabs
Enable a quieter power plan (Windows: “Balanced” or “Power saver”; macOS: “Energy Saver”)
Set fan mode to “Quiet” or “Low” in your laptop’s vendor utility (if available)
Clean laptop vents and fan intakes with compressed air
Remove dust from fan blades carefully if you can access them safely
Replace thermal paste if temperatures are consistently high (service if unsure)
Ensure the laptop is on a hard, flat surface
Use a cooling pad or stand to improve airflow
Raise the laptop to improve intake/exhaust clearance
Keep the BIOS/firmware and vendor utilities updated
Check for malware and run a full system scan
Disable unnecessary startup programs
Reduce graphics settings or resolution in games/apps
Limit background syncing (cloud, backups, updates) during use
Uninstall or disable resource-heavy extensions and services
Monitor temperatures and identify the process causing spikes (Task Manager / Activity Monitor)
Adjust Windows “Processor power management” settings to reduce maximum processor state
If the fan is mechanically failing, contact service/repair for inspection and replacement
