Include zeros for any missing terms
Identify the zero of the divisor
Write that zero on the left
Bring down the first coefficient
Multiply the brought-down number by the zero
Write the product under the next coefficient
Add the column
Repeat multiply and add for each coefficient
Use the last number as the remainder
Write the other numbers as the quotient coefficients
Attach variables to the quotient terms with powers reduced by one
