Keep the baby bird warm
Place it in a small box or container lined with soft cloth or paper towels
Keep the container in a quiet, dark, and safe place
Do not give water directly into its beak
Do not feed milk, bread, or human food
Feed only appropriate bird food if you know the species and age
Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or veterinarian as soon as possible
If the bird is featherless or injured, get professional help immediately
If the bird is fully feathered and on the ground, check for a nearby nest first
Return it to the nest if it is safe to do so
Keep pets and people away from the bird
Wash your hands after handling the bird
