Turn off the fan and switch off the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the light kit, if present
Remove the fan blades
Support the fan motor with one hand or a helper
Remove the canopy screws
Lower the canopy to expose the mounting bracket
Disconnect the wiring nuts
Separate the ground wire
Remove the mounting bracket screws
Lower the fan from the ceiling
Remove any remaining hardware
Cap the ceiling wires if they will remain unused
Store or dispose of the fan safely
