How to Tell if Cat is Dehydrated?

Check if the gums are dry or sticky instead of moist

Gently lift the skin over the shoulders; if it stays tented and returns slowly, dehydration may be present

Look for sunken eyes

Notice reduced energy, weakness, or lethargy

Watch for decreased appetite

Observe reduced urination or very dark urine

Check for panting or rapid breathing

Feel for a dry nose or thick saliva

Monitor for loss of skin elasticity

Seek veterinary care if the cat is vomiting, has diarrhea, or cannot keep water down

Seek urgent veterinary care if the cat is very weak, collapsed, or not drinking at all
