Severe pain in the side of the back or lower abdomen that may come in waves (often called renal colic)
Pain that may move toward the groin
Pain or burning when urinating
Needing to urinate more often or urgently
Urine that looks pink, red, or brown, or has visible blood
Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
Nausea and vomiting
Feeling restless or unable to get comfortable due to pain
Fever or chills (can indicate infection with a stone)
Trouble passing urine or very low urine output
Symptoms that start suddenly and fluctuate in intensity
History of kidney stones or strong family history of stones
Dehydration or risk factors such as certain diets, obesity, bowel disease, gout, or some medications
