How to Tell If Your Cat is Dehydrated?

Check for dry, sticky, or tacky gums

Gently lift the skin over the shoulders; if it does not snap back quickly, dehydration may be present

Look for sunken eyes

Watch for lethargy or unusual weakness

Notice reduced appetite or refusal to eat

Observe decreased urination or very concentrated urine

Check for panting or rapid breathing

Feel for a dry nose or overall dry mouth

Monitor for constipation

Watch for loss of skin elasticity

Look for a fast heart rate

Seek veterinary care if your cat is vomiting, has diarrhea, or is not drinking water

Seek urgent veterinary care if your cat is severely weak, collapses, or cannot keep water down
