Lift the tail gently and look at the area below the anus
Male cats usually have two openings spaced farther apart
Female cats usually have two openings close together
Male cats have a round genital opening below the anus
Female cats have a vertical slit below the anus
Male kittens may show a small scrotal area between the openings
Compare the distance between the anus and genital opening
