Open the reel bail if using a spinning reel
Run the fishing line through the rod guides
Wrap the line around the reel spool
Tie an arbor knot around the spool
Pull the knot tight
Add a second overhand knot around the standing line
Trim the tag end
Close the bail
Reel in the line under steady tension
Keep the line snug and evenly spooled
