Sign the title as the seller
Fill in the buyer’s name and sale date
Record the odometer reading if required
Complete any required bill of sale
Remove your license plates if required by your state
Provide the buyer with the signed title
Give the buyer any required lien release documents
Submit a release of liability or notice of transfer if required
Keep a copy of the signed title and bill of sale
Have the buyer take the title to the DMV or motor vehicle agency
Have the buyer pay title transfer fees and taxes
