Use a live trap designed for medium-sized animals
Place the trap near the possum’s travel path, den, or feeding area
Bait the trap with fruit, peanut butter, cat food, or marshmallows
Set the trap on stable, level ground
Cover the trap lightly with a cloth or leaves if needed to reduce stress
Check the trap frequently, especially early in the morning and late in the day
Wear gloves when handling the trap
Keep children and pets away from the trap
Relocate or release the possum only if allowed by local regulations
