Strip all bedding, pillowcases, blankets, and mattress covers
Seal bedding in plastic bags before moving it through the home
Wash all bedding and nearby fabrics in hot water
Dry on the highest heat setting for at least 30 minutes
Vacuum the mattress, bed frame, headboard, baseboards, and nearby floor
Empty the vacuum into a sealed bag and dispose of it outside immediately
Steam-treat mattress seams, tufts, and bed frame cracks
Inspect and treat the box spring, bed frame joints, and screw holes
Apply a bed bug-approved residual insecticide only according to the label
Use mattress and box spring encasements rated for bed bugs
Reduce clutter around the bed and room
Move the bed slightly away from walls and keep bedding off the floor
Place bed bug interceptors under bed legs
Repeat inspection and treatment every 7 to 14 days
Treat adjoining rooms and furniture if infestation is present
Contact a licensed pest control professional for heavy infestations
Do not use indoor pesticides, foggers, or heat sources unless labeled for bed bugs
Do not return cleaned items to the room until the infestation is controlled
