Move away from the bee to avoid more stings
Remove the stinger as quickly as possible by scraping it out with a fingernail, credit card, or similar object
Wash the area with soap and water
Apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 to 20 minutes at a time
Elevate the affected area if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Apply calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream for itching
Take an oral antihistamine if itching or swelling is mild
Avoid scratching the sting site
Monitor for signs of a severe allergic reaction
Call emergency services immediately if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, fainting, or widespread hives
Seek medical care if swelling is severe, the sting is in the mouth or throat, or symptoms worsen
Use an epinephrine auto-injector if prescribed and severe allergy symptoms occur
Watch for infection if redness, warmth, pus, or fever develops after a few days
