If you get them frequently, ask a clinician about triggers and prevention options (including vitamin/mineral deficiencies)
Seek urgent care if you have trouble swallowing, severe pain, fever, or widespread sores
Seek medical/dental care if sores last longer than 2 weeks, are very large, or recur often
Ask a clinician about prescription treatments if OTC options don’t help (topical corticosteroids, other prescription mouth rinses)
