See a dermatologist or oncologist for prompt evaluation and staging
Remove the melanoma with surgical excision when possible
Perform sentinel lymph node biopsy when indicated
Use wide local excision with appropriate margins
Consider immunotherapy for advanced or high-risk melanoma
Consider targeted therapy for BRAF-mutated melanoma
Use radiation therapy in selected cases
Use chemotherapy only in limited situations
Treat metastatic disease with systemic therapy

Follow up regularly for recurrence and new skin cancers
