Isolate the infected dog immediately
Contact a veterinarian or emergency clinic right away
Provide hospitalization if recommended
Give IV fluids to prevent dehydration
Use anti-nausea medication as prescribed
Use antibiotics if prescribed to prevent secondary infection
Monitor and correct blood sugar and electrolytes
Keep the dog warm and quiet
Offer small amounts of water only if the vet says it is safe
Feed bland, easily digestible food only when vomiting has stopped and the vet approves
Clean contaminated areas with a bleach solution
Disinfect food bowls, bedding, crates, and floors
Keep other dogs away from contaminated areas
Follow all veterinary instructions exactly
Return for rechecks as directed
Vaccinate other dogs to help prevent spread
