Get tested by a healthcare provider to confirm the diagnosis
Take the prescribed antibiotic exactly as directed
Common treatment is metronidazole or tinidazole
Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 24 hours after metronidazole or 72 hours after tinidazole
Avoid sexual activity until treatment is completed and symptoms are gone
Make sure all sexual partners are treated at the same time
Retest about 3 months after treatment to check for reinfection
Finish the full course of medication even if symptoms improve
Seek medical care if symptoms persist or return
Use condoms to reduce the risk of future infection
