Move away from the area to avoid more stings
Remove the stinger only if it is present
Wash the sting site with soap and water
Apply a cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes at a time
Elevate the area if it is swollen
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Use an oral antihistamine for itching or swelling if appropriate
Apply a topical hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for itching
Avoid scratching the sting site
Monitor for signs of an allergic reaction
Call emergency services immediately for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or fainting
Seek urgent medical care for multiple stings, stings in the mouth or throat, or worsening symptoms
