Wait until after flowering or in early spring
Use clean, sharp pruning shears
Remove spent flower stems
Cut back about one-third of the plant
Trim just above green growth
Avoid cutting into old woody stems
Shape the plant into a rounded mound
Remove dead, damaged, or leggy stems
Lightly trim again after a second bloom if needed
Discard cuttings and clean tools after pruning
