Gather supplies: sharp hair-cutting scissors, wide-tooth comb, hair clips, spray bottle, mirror(s), towel/cover
Choose the style and length you want to remove
Start with clean, damp hair (not dripping)
Remove tangles with a comb
Part hair into sections (top, sides, back) and secure with clips
Decide on a guide length (pick a small section to measure how much to cut)
Cut small amounts at a time; re-check length frequently
For an even blunt cut: comb a section straight, cut to the guide length, then repeat across sections
For a layered look: cut layers by taking diagonal sections and matching to the guide
Work from the back upward so you can see consistency
Keep scissors aligned with the hair direction for the style you want
Use light snips for texture (especially on ends) instead of large cuts
Blend transitions between sections by trimming slightly and checking the silhouette
Check symmetry by combing both sides forward and comparing length
Dry hair fully and check in natural light
Re-trim only where needed, using the dry shape as your final reference
Clean up stray pieces with small targeted cuts
Style and re-check the ends; remove any uneven spots with micro-trims
