Open the folder containing the replaced file
Right-click the file
Select Show Previous Versions if available
Restore the earlier version from Time Machine
Open Time Machine from the menu bar or Applications
Navigate to the date before the file was replaced
Select the original file
Click Restore
Check the Trash for a copy of the original file
Open the app used to edit the file
Use File > Revert To > Browse All Versions if available
Recover the file from iCloud Drive if it was synced there
Check the app’s auto-save or version history feature
Use a backup from an external drive if available
Avoid saving over the file again until recovery is complete
