Wash your hands
Remove the suppository from its wrapper
If needed, moisten it with a little water or use a water-based lubricant
Lie on your side with one knee bent, or stand with one foot raised
Gently insert the suppository into the rectum, pointed end first
Push it in past the anal sphincter, about 1 inch in adults
Stay lying down for a few minutes if possible
Wash your hands again
Try to avoid passing stool for at least 15 to 60 minutes, or as directed
