Reduce breastfeeding sessions gradually
Replace one feeding at a time with formula, expressed milk, or age-appropriate solid foods
Drop the least important feeding first
Shorten each breastfeeding session little by little
Increase the time between feeds
Offer a cup or bottle instead of nursing when appropriate
Use distraction, cuddling, or play to comfort the child
Avoid sudden stopping if possible
Pump or hand express only enough for comfort if breasts feel full
Wear a supportive bra
Use cold compresses for breast fullness
Watch for signs of engorgement, blocked ducts, or mastitis
Seek medical advice if you have pain, fever, redness, or severe swelling
Continue reducing feeds until breastfeeding stops completely
