How to Work Out Square Footage of a House?

Measure the length and width of each room or area in feet

Multiply length by width to get the square footage of each rectangular area

For irregular spaces, divide them into smaller rectangles or triangles, calculate each section, and add them together

Include only finished, livable areas if you are calculating home square footage

Exclude garages, unfinished basements, porches, and other non-livable spaces unless specifically required

Measure from the outside walls if you are calculating the total footprint of the house

Add the square footage of all included rooms and spaces

Round each measurement to the nearest inch or tenth of a foot if needed

Use a tape measure, laser measure, or floor plan for accuracy

Double-check all measurements before finalizing the total
