Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C)
Line a baking dish or sheet pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it
Pat the tilapia fillets dry with paper towels
Place the fillets in the prepared baking dish
Drizzle with olive oil or melted butter
Season with salt and black pepper
Add garlic powder, paprika, and lemon juice if desired
Top with sliced lemon or fresh herbs if desired
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on thickness
Check that the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork
Remove from the oven and serve immediately
