Check the size of the tail base near the vent
Look for two hemipenal bulges on males at the base of the tail
Look for one central bulge or a flatter tail base in females
Use a flashlight to gently backlight the tail base to help reveal bulges
Examine the femoral pores on the underside of the thighs
Males usually have larger, more visible femoral pores
Females usually have smaller, less noticeable femoral pores
Observe the head and body shape
Males often have broader heads and thicker bodies
Females often have narrower heads and slimmer bodies
Check the behavior during breeding season
Males may show more head bobbing and territorial behavior
Females may show arm waving and submissive behavior
Use a professional reptile vet or experienced breeder for confirmation if needed
