Gather fabric, lining, thread, needle or sewing machine, scissors, pins, ruler, and chalk
Cut two outer fabric pieces and two lining pieces to the desired bag size
Cut strap pieces if making handles or a shoulder strap
Place outer fabric pieces right sides together
Pin the sides and bottom edges
Stitch the side and bottom seams
Repeat with the lining pieces, leaving a small opening in one side if needed
Flatten the bottom corners and stitch across to form box corners if desired
Turn the outer bag right side out
Keep the lining bag inside out
Insert the outer bag into the lining bag with right sides facing
Pin the top edges together
Stitch around the top edge
Turn the bag right side out through the lining opening
Close the lining opening with a neat stitch
Push the lining into the bag
Topstitch around the top edge if desired
Attach straps or handles securely
Press the bag flat and check all seams
