Wash jars, lids, and bands in hot soapy water
Rinse thoroughly
Inspect jars for chips, cracks, or defects
Place jars in a large pot or canner on a rack
Cover jars with water by at least 1 inch
Bring water to a boil
Boil jars for 10 minutes
Keep jars hot in the water until ready to use
Remove jars with clean jar tongs
Drain upside down on a clean towel or rack
Keep lids and bands in hot water if needed until use
Use sterilized jars immediately while still hot
