Rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day
Apply gentle pressure with clean gauze if it is bleeding
Use a cold compress on the outside of your mouth to reduce swelling
Suck on ice chips or eat cold foods to soothe pain
Avoid spicy, acidic, salty, and crunchy foods
Eat soft foods like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and soup
Drink plenty of water
Keep your mouth clean by brushing gently
Avoid alcohol and tobacco
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Do not pick at the bite or irritate it with your tongue
See a dentist or doctor if bleeding does not stop, pain is severe, or it shows signs of infection
