Preheat the oven to 400°F
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil
Pat the salmon dry with paper towels
Place the salmon skin-side down on the baking sheet
Brush the salmon with olive oil or melted butter
Season with salt and black pepper
Add garlic, lemon juice, and herbs if desired
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on thickness
Check that the salmon flakes easily with a fork
Remove from the oven
Serve immediately with lemon wedges if desired
