Apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes at a time

Reduce salt intake
Drink enough water
Get enough sleep
Avoid allergens and irritants
Use a clean, cool washcloth
Take an over-the-counter antihistamine if allergies are the cause
Stop using eye makeup until swelling improves
Replace old or contaminated eye makeup
Wash your hands before touching your eyes
Seek medical care if you have pain, vision changes, redness, discharge, injury, or swelling that is severe or persistent
