How to Replace Oxygen Sensor?

Disconnect the negative battery terminal

Locate the oxygen sensor

Raise and secure the vehicle if needed

Unplug the sensor electrical connector

Apply penetrating oil to the sensor threads if needed

Use an oxygen sensor socket or wrench to remove the old sensor

Compare the new sensor to the old sensor

Apply anti-seize only if the new sensor does not come pre-coated

Thread the new sensor in by hand

Tighten the sensor to the specified torque

Reconnect the electrical connector

Lower the vehicle if it was raised

Reconnect the negative battery terminal

Clear any trouble codes with a scan tool

Start the engine and check for leaks or warning lights
