Remove the existing door, trim, and drywall from the wall area
Check the wall for plumbing, wiring, and load-bearing framing
Confirm the wall cavity is wide enough for the pocket door frame
Install a pocket door frame kit or build the rough opening to match the door size
Remove or reroute any obstacles inside the wall
Install the header and track system according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Assemble and secure the side studs and split studs for the pocket cavity
Make sure the frame is plumb, level, and square
Hang the pocket door on the rollers and test the movement
Adjust the rollers and track for smooth operation
Install the door guides at the floor
Add blocking for the door jamb and hardware if needed
Hang drywall on both sides of the wall
Tape, mud, sand, and finish the drywall
Install the door trim and casing
Install the handle, latch, and any pull hardware
Test the door for alignment, clearance, and smooth sliding
