Stop eating for a short time if food is worsening the pain
Sip small amounts of water or clear fluids
Drink warm chamomile tea
Try ginger tea in small amounts if it does not irritate you
Eat bland foods such as toast, crackers, rice, bananas, or applesauce
Avoid spicy foods, fried foods, acidic foods, coffee, alcohol, and carbonated drinks
Avoid smoking and vaping
Take an antacid if you normally use one and it is safe for you
Use an acid reducer such as famotidine if you have used it before and it is appropriate for you
Rest and avoid lying flat right after eating
Sit upright or keep your upper body elevated
Apply a warm compress or heating pad to the upper abdomen
Avoid ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin unless a doctor told you to take them
Eat smaller meals once you start eating again
Seek urgent medical care if you have severe pain, vomiting blood, black stools, chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, or a swollen hard abdomen
